Once a year, the temple unveils its painting of Kobodaishi conducting a Buddhist ceremony by Katsushika Hokusai. This masterpiece, signed "Gakyō Rōjin Manji" (the old man mad about art), is from his last years as an artist, and is one of his largest surviving pieces. A mysterious ambience, common in the paintings of his last years pervades the work, which also fully presents Hokusai's distinctive composition style.
The work depicts Kobodaishi exorcising a demon (calamity) through his Buddhist powers, and is thought to portray the good luck of Nishiarai Daishi.
